What you need to know

What is IPL skin rejuvenation?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) skin rejuvenation is a light based aesthetic treatment that actively targets and reduces skin irregularities to promote a clearer, younger and healthier complexion.

How does it work?

IPL works by applying rapid light pulses of variable wavelengths to the treatment area. The light is absorbed by the targeted chromophores (such as melanin in pigmentation or freckles). This light is then converted into heat energy which destroys the targeted area through controlled thermal damage. while ensuring surrounding healthy tissue remains untouched.

Is it painful?

No, you will feel a sensation throughout the treatment but it is not painful. We will take care to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

How many treatments will I need?

This will vary depending on the severity of your skin concern. Some may require a single treatment, while others will require ongoing treatments to achieve the best possible results. Your clinician will discuss the expected number of treatments, along with expected results during your consultation.

Is there any downtime after treatment?

No. Unlike other skin-corrective treatments, IPL skin rejuvenation requires no downtime so you are free to get on with your day as usual. Some temporary redness may occur, but this will pass soon enough. We will advise you on the necessary post-treatment care to follow during your session.

Are the results long lasting?

Most clients enjoy long-lasting results following their IPL skin rejuvenation program. To ensure optimal skin health and clarity for the long run, a maintenance treatment can be performed if necessary.

Pigmentation & Acne Treatments

Regrettably, no treatment will ever remove acne scars completely, we offer a non-invasive treatment that is effective for improving the overall appearance of your scars. Of the 85% of people suffering from acne, 30% of these are affected by acne scarring. Our acne treatments are ideal for blemishing the skin, making your skin look smooth and healthy. There are different types of acne scars; boxcar, rolling, ice pick, atrophic and hypertrophic are just a few. As the name suggests laser treatment for acne scars involves firing a laser directly at acne scars. IPL acne scar removal treatment works in two different ways. To start with, the heat generated by the laser removes the uppermost layer of skin where your scars are. Once this layer peels off, the scar is not as noticeable and the skin looks smoother and more attractive already. As your treated skin tissue starts to break, the laser’s light and heat encourage and stimulate healthy, brand-new cells to grow. While this is happening, blood is directed to the treatment site by the laser’s heat and because the scar’s blood vessels are targeted, inflammation starts to reduce. The end result is that your scars look less obvious, raised and red

Vascular Therapy Facial

Vascular lasers are used to target and remove unwanted or abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The laser is targeted, meaning it focuses on the areas which require treatment, while leaving the surrounding healthy skin untouched. Here at the Harley Street Dermatology Clinic, we use the Pulsed Dye Vascular laser to treat the following common skin conditions. In some cases, this may be a vascular laser. Vascular lasers work to treat a range of skin conditions by exposing the lesion to short pulses of light. They emit a very strong light of a single wavelength that is carefully matched to the absorption characteristic of the target tissue. The light is absorbed by the target and converted into heat thereby destroying the target. Because this destructive process is over in a tiny fraction of a second, there is little time for the heat to affect other tissue nearby, and because of this the risk of scarring is minimized. The temperature from the light is just enough to damage the vessel of the lesion, which is then absorbed back into the body, making them less visible.

Multiple treatments are often required to achieve the best results from a vascular laser depending on your skin type and the severity and location of your condition which requires treatment. Following treatment you may experience some redness, bruising or swelling but this will settle down over a couple of days
